Our STUP Award this week went to the city council of Berkeley, California and the anti-war group Code Pink (see STUP).

Senator Jim DeMint of South Carolina had a great punitive idea for Berkeley's outrageous behavior; he threatened to withhold more than two million dollars earmarked for the city.

Senator DeMint's threat along with thousands of emails, letters, and phone calls from angry Berkeley residents and concerned citizens all across America convinced the Berkeley city council to reconsider its actions against the Marine recruiting facility. The city withdrew its resolution calling the Marine recruiters "uninvited and unwelcome intruders."

Thank you, Senator DeMint, for your perspicacious idea that grabbed the attention of a group of moronic council members.

And in case our readers are wondering, the parking privileges given to Code Pink were not rescinded.
