Three Things To Keep In Mind When Listening To All The Noise About Impeachment Testimony
David A. Cook Coffeeshop Weekly October 2019
The news was all a buzz about the testimony of Army Lieutenant Colonel Alexander Vindman. The left is calling it a bombshell, one Democrat said it was sea change in the impeachment process. On and on it goes when in fact we have heard all this before. Vindman heard the call and was concerned about what he heard. Although some of his conclusion are contradictory to facts, he gave what he thought was an accurate account for what he heard and felt about it. Trust me, the selective leaks of testimony will continue. But there are three things that remain standing upon which none of the allegations against Trump can hold water as long as they remain. I have been saying this for weeks now, but it is more obvious at this point than ever before. Unless these three facts can be proven wrong as it relates to the current path of the democratic impeachment craze, you can evaluate almost any testimony irrelevant.
Both President Trump and President Zelensky have said that there was no pressure, no conditions no coercion, and no quid pro quo in terms of any of Trumps requests.
It is amazing how so many people (democrats) who have read the transcripts and even those who listened in on the call are saying that there was a quid pro quo or pressure on president Zelensky. However, the two people actually having the conversation are saying nothing of the kind happened. It would seem to me that if the people directly having the conversation agree that there wasn’t anything in regard to pressure or coercion then does it really matter what other people think about it. As long as this stands, impeachment is at risk.
Neither the government of Ukraine nor President Zelenski knew during that July phone call that the $400 million of aid was being held up.
This is an interesting fact. The Ukrainian government did not know that the aid was being help up until August, one month after the Trump/Zelinsky phone call. If this is the case and by every account it is, then how was Trump pressuring Zelinsky to do him favors. What was the leverage that Trump was using? Keep in mind that Zelinsky said that he didn’t know about the hold up until August. The funds were released in September.
What actions did Zelenski take that got the funds released?
According to reports Trump was demanding Zelenski hold a press conference announcing to the public the start of an investigation into the Biden story, and interference in the 2016 election. So here we have the fact that during the phone call Zelenski knew nothing about the hold up of funds. He only found out about it in August and in September the funds were released. So what did Zelenski say or do in AUgust that would have triggered the release of aid? Surely if the reports are true then He must have taken some action or say something. But no, it never happened.
Rep. Jim Jordan (R) Ohio, made these and other similar points at a brief new conference. He is right, as long as these facts hold, all the testimony in the world is inconsequential in terms of the current impeachment attempt. Until they do change, you can read the reports on leaked testimony and simply shake your head because it all means nothing. Unless these three facts are found to not be facts then an honest impeachment cannot be successful.
The democrats have hung their hats on this, and it doesn’t seem like a very solid foundation. But then again when have facts ever stood in the way of attempting to take down this president.
